Two Rocks and a Jenner

Chances are you’ve heard the names Kid Rock, Caitlyn Jenner, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. But besides being well known public figures, what do these three have in common? They are all exploring a run for government office. It leaves many to believe, if former reality television star Donald Trump can become President, anyone can take part in leading America. Well, that actually may be true.

First of all, there has been speculation over the past few weeks that Kid Rock may been running for Senate in Michigan. In an early poll that was taken for the 2018 midterm election, he is the leading the Republican party in the race. Do not burst into laughter, because he is trailing only incumbent Democrat Debbie Stabenow… by 8%. Saying since the election is not even until November of next year (and the fact that he has not formally announced his candidacy), Kid Rock has plenty of time to get his poll margin narrower than it already is. Even if he decides not to throw his hat in the ring, he has created a non-profit for “‘register the vote’ efforts” in Michigan. During the 2016 general election, Michigan was up in the air about what candidate they would vote for. As they did end up going red, the state seems to be warming up to Donald Trump. Despite nationwide approval ratings being in the high 30%’s, Michigan has a 49% approval rating of the President. Next, we look to former Olympian and transgender activist, Caitlyn Jenner. She is mulling a 2018 Senate run in the state of California. Jenner has been a Republican her entire life, and she supported Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. She has faced much criticism for that decision, even more so after the President’s proposal to no longer allow transgender people in the military. However, she encourages the GOP to have a more accepting platform in regards to the LGBTQ+ community. As California is a Democrat dominated state, it is unknown if Caitlyn Jenner would have a shot at the Senate seat, currently held by Dianne Feinstein.

Lastly, Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson, former professional wrestler and top earning actor, is “of course” considering a run for President according to an interview with GQ. Dwayne Johnson was a supporter of the Republican Party, but in order for him to ~properly~ run in 2020, he would have to run as a Democrat or an Independent. Back in May, Public Policy Polling was doing an investigation about the odds of particular candidates winning the 2020 election. ‘The Rock’ was one of them, and he had 42/37 (47%) odds of winning if he ran as a Democrat. Many truly believe that the Johnson should be the next leader of the free world, as there is a ‘Run the Rock 2020’ committee for his possible candidacy.

It will take everyone some time to fathom the fact that there might actually be a Johnson vs. Trump election in 4 years, and the fact that we may have a rock star in the Senate. Although they do not have political experience, it does not mean that they do not engage with the people of America. For example, Kid Rock gave $1 million to Detroit charities after the city went bankrupt back in 2013. Citizens are looking everywhere for representation in government, and if that means celebrities, let it be.
