After the incidents in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday, Donald Trump made statement saying that “all sides” are at fault in what was clearly a hate crime. Many, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, called for him to fire his top advisor Steve Bannon. Today, that did very well happen. But it was not entirely related to the Alt Right movement, it was mainly due to contradicting Trump on national security issues in a rare interview this week. Trump and John Kelly agreed this was the last straw, even though Bannon submitted his resignation two weeks ago.
According the a statement from Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, “White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”
When in his position, some even called him President- yes, you heard that- President Steve Bannon. The quiet founder of Breitbart is being conspired to be making many of Donald Trump’s decisions. Picture Steve Bannon as the devil on one of Trump’s shoulders. Amidst all the tension that has been going on in the White House lately, Bannon has managed to stay almost completely out of the public eye.
Another rumor spread is that Steve Bannon may also be responsible for White House leaks. Once again we glance over to the fact that he is the founder of Breitbart and will be returning to his chairman position at the organization. It is a great possibility that now Breitbart will turn anti-Trump. Which may be a good thing for the reason being that he could possibly lose support of the alt-right. That may not sound great in terms of votes, but Trump is opening himself to a wider group of people if he does not have the alt right breathing down his neck.
Of course, his departure was predicted. After Reince Priebus left the White House, General John Kelly is seemingly handing out Bankers boxes to the desks of advisors, most notably communications director Anthony Scaramucci. Hopefully, John Kelly will continue to straighten out the White House, despite all the craziness that has been taking place over the past week. The staff changes will not 100% get rid of Trump’s off the cuff attitude. We may, however, see a difference in how he reacts to the media and many other things that he has shown to be causing problems in the administration.
Another week- another firing.
